Model 612 Phonograph 蓄音機

[概要]

本品はCOLUMBIA社が開発し1925年から-30年代までに発売された
とても希少価値の高いSPレコード盤再生用フロア型蓄音器、
Viva-Tonal Model 612 (ビバ・トーナー)です。

1900初頭、コロンビア社はビクタートーキングマシン社、
そしてエディソン社と三つ巴の”レコード戦争”の真っただ中にいました。

ビクター社はSPレコードの製造に、エディソン社は蝋管でより一層高みを目指し、
この蝋管からSPへの移行期に各社それぞれが凌ぎを削り新たな試みに挑んでいました。
コロンビア社は蓄音器よりも主に蝋管レコードとSPレコードのメディア製造に焦点を合わせ、
前２社と良好な関係を保ちつつ、独自の技術を発展させていきました。
この間、同社はModel 117のような比較的小型グラモフォンの製造をしていました。
1925年にはウェスタン・エレクトリック社のライセンスを取得し、
この"Viva-Tonal"シリーズを発表し、蓄音器製造において確固たる地位を築きました。

1925年から蓄音器は手巻き駆動から電動への移行期でもあり、
コロンビア社の蓄音器はベル研究所の蝋管蓄音器とならび、
世界最古の手動ターンテーブル/蓄音器の一つと言える希少な品です。

■ ビクター社やエディソン社とは違う蓄音器 ■
コロンビア社の蓄音器はそのメディア製造において、
盤との互換性をもつ新たなマシンをその都度製造していたことから、
当時のメディアとの相性は抜群であり当初から音質に定評がありました。
英国ベースの技術を米国で再現したということもあり、
ビクター社やエディソン社とはまた違った繊細な音質が人気を呼びました。
前２社の最上位モデルと同等、もしくはそれ以上の音質、機能性を
低価格で提供できたことも同社の知名度を確固たるものとした所以です。

モーターの動作も非常にスムースで異音、回転ムラなどほぼございません。
年代をまったく感じさせない非常にスムーズな動作であり、
当時の技術者のモノ造りに対する意識の高さ、精巧さが伺えます。

注：アンティークの域にある品のため、レストアはあえて最小限です。
ある程度ヴィンテージの知識がある方にお勧めいたします。

■ 取り扱い注意事項 ■
・再生針はSP盤2枚(2－4曲)を目安に新品に交換してください。
・モーターは専用のクランクを回し駆動させます
（完全に巻いた状態(およそ90回)で約20分の再生が可能です）。
